            Lunch at Buddy's

Image
There were indeed 10 Jungaleers at Buddy's at our April luncheon and a great time was
had by all. Once again, Naida skipped out early and avoided the photo opportunity...
(camera shy, you know).

Please join us for our next fabulous SE61 luncheon on Wednesday May 10th (12:30 as usual)
at Logan's Roardhouse, 86 W.14 Mile Road in Troy (corner of 14 Mile & John R) Don't forget
to RSVP by Monday May 8th so enough chairs are saved for us.

P.S. Don't forget to stop by our HOBBIES-PASSIONS page and check out our latest postings (good stuff) from our own Jungaleer Poet-Laureate, Liz McClellan.

Hello all. What a lovely time we had today at the "All-Class (post-50) Southeastern Reunion Luncheon. Assumption Cultural Center is a beautiful venue; food was superb and spending
time with fellow Jungaleers of most any age can't help but be fun!

Smiling for the camera are Jungaleers Glenda ('60), Char, Gretchen ('62) Liz, Fred and Pete ('61). Missing from our photo is John Thomson..he left early. Yup, our class president had to
go back to work.

This luncheon is an annual event, held for the past 17 years on the forth Thursday in
September. In 2015 that will be on the 24th. When you get your calendars ready for the new year be sure to enter that day....Thursday, September 24, 2015. 12 noon at the Assumption Cultural Center in St. Clair Shores. (Right next door the church that George, Pete and Teddy attend).

Mark your calendar in PURPLE so you don't forget.

Liz

HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY
To All Jungaleers of the Class of '61

Image

Yup, all of us have, or will soon turn 70.... yes, the big SEVEN Oh...my God.

Well, all except for the youngsters, pictured below, who attended the 70th Birthday Bash on March 2nd at the Quality Inn. We ate and we drank, we laughed and even danced a bit. Nearly twenty members of the awesome Class of 1961 came together once again to commemorate this momentous occasion, the anniversary of having traversed this old planet for almost three quarters of a century !!!  Some traveled a fair distance while others not so far. To be sure, it was a fun time and a joyful jolly success. Snack food was great, bar food excellent, and the birthday cake was amazing!! Those who stayed the night had comfy rooms for Reunion Prices, thanks to Dr. Coolpix (Lois).

Jungaleers Fled to the Tropics

Well in the end there were 9 Jungaleers "vacationing" for lunch at the Bahama Breeze in Tropical Troy on a January-in-Michigan afternoon!  There were palm trees and fans and an island inspired menu.

And a wonderful time was had by all as you can see by the photos taken by our very own Dr. Kool-Pix, aka Ms. SuperHockeyFan!

Please continue watch this space ~ email or website or both ~ for future activities; one in particular comes to mind.  Since most of us will turn 70 in this year of 2013 (some may have already have done so) there is a plan in the works to celebrate that milestone.  As information becomes available it will be transmitted to a computer screen near you!!

We hope you all enjoy these reports ~ would love to see more of you at any of them.  "Out of town" does indeed make attendance difficult but if anyone is traveling to the region we'd be tickled to plan an extra activity so we can visit!

Jungaleer Delinquents Meet at Big Beaver Grill

Alrighty then.  This time there are pictures!  :) happy  We apparently were having too much fun in October and forgot to get out the cameras!  This month, on November 14th, The Big Beaver Tavern set a lovely table for eleven hungry Jungaleers. See all those happy faces as once again we gathered to keep in touch!  And this time two cameras came out to record the event forever, thank you very much.  Once again we ate and laughed, we reminisced and then made plans for the future!

Please ~ watch this space for December.  Plans are in the works to meet at Canterbury Village on the 12th, specifics forthcoming soon but do mark the date on your calendar.

Picano's must have been a great choice - 13 Jungaleers (that's close to the record for lunch) came to reminisce, to laugh and eat and laugh some more!  Food was excellent as was the service - and a fun time of course was had by all.

In the midst of all that fun we managed to make plans for next month.

Wednesday October 10th will find us just a little farther north on Rochester Road.  We will meet at 12:30 pm at Ticonderoga, 5725 Rochester Road (north of Long Lake (aka 18 Mile) Road.  Since it's a rustic place and located on a golf course we might even enjoy some fall color.  Autumn is absolutely breathtaking in Michigan!!!

Let us know your plans - for those of you who go south for the winter hopefully we've caught you in time, before you leave.  As always a reminder message will arrive about a week before the event on a computer screen near you - so please watch this space!

OPA !!!...... At Pegasus'

We were a small group of Jungaleers last Wednesday at Pegasus Taverna, just 8, but oh my how we laughed and reminisced about the long ago past.  We never seem to get tired of that ~ this time we went wa-a-ay back.

We remembered that some of us grew up with coal chutes/bins and furnaces to stoke ~ several remembered an actual ice box and a man with iron tongs who delivered huge blocks of the chilly stuff to keep milk and butter (other perishable foodstuffs as well) chilled.  Speaking of milk ~ how many had a milk chute, sometimes used for mail too, at the side of the house?  Many of us did.

Speaking of food The Pegasus menu was mostly Greek (sorry you missed it George) so Pete was happy, took some home to Teddy (we missed you too dear friend) while at least one of us thought to burn the place down with Saganaki, flaming Greek cheese which sizzles to rousing cheers of Opa!

Photos soon to appear on the website http://www.southeastern61.com/
and thanks to a kindly young waiter all 8 of us are in them, no one got stuck behind the camera.  And many thanks to you Lois, Dr. Coolpix, for getting them to Dr. Webmaster!  What will you have done to us, Dr. Photoshop

Please keep September 12 open for the next fun gathering of the Lunch Bunch which will be held at Picano's...on Rochester Rd, just south of Wattles (17 Mile Rd) at 12:30 PM.

Be there....or be square.

Hey Jungaleers....

How about a trip down Memory Lane...and a walk over to Lemay Street.

Does the photo below look familiar?
At our recent outing at Dave DeVries' store, Marian Ralph Gormley rekindled our memories of her family's store on the corner of Lemay and Goethe....just a block over from Southeastern H.S.
Boy, did that bring back a few great memories. I asked her to send me any information she had (including an old photo or two) and Marian was kind enough to send us a snapshot and an article that appeared in the Detroit Free Press a while back. Thanks Marian, for sharing this with us.
I wonder...do they still make 'lik-m-aid' , Sweet Sixteen pop, or wax lips?

BRUNCH at the VOYAGER

Classmates Dorothy (Bennett) Plotzke, Floyd Dziadula, Sheri (Dominski) Serra, and Pete Coutsos (not pictured) gathered recently at the Voyager in St Clair, MI (together with their spouses) to watch the boat races, enjoy a delicious brunch and reminisce about their wonderful years at Foch and Southeastern. Sheri and Ron were back up in Michigan (from Florida) visiting family and friends when Dorothy and Dave suggested we all should get together,..... and then arranged for us to meet at the Voyager for a fantastic brunch.

The races were great and a lot of fun to watch. Those boat races sparked an interesting conversation as the ladies, Dorothy, Sheri, Teddy, and Gail related many of their fond and vivid memories of watching dozens of exciting "submarine races" along the Detroit River. Of course, the guys had no idea what they were talking about, and understandably, spent a great of time cringing and blushing.

A great time was had by all and plans were made to get together again next year with more Foch/Southeastern grads.

Great Fun at Dave's R Hirt Jr Co.

From the desk of our own Dr. Wordsmith....Liz Prechtel McCellan:

Oh my goodness, oh my!! It seemed like the hottest day in July!!

But 30 hardy Jungaleers had a superbly excellent time at the Eastern Market last week. We visited and mingled, we ate and drank...and we almost melted away. Saturday evening was the best!!

Our own Dave DeVries put out crackers and cheese...
with beverages sure to please!!
Who knew we'd even get a history lesson...
and learn about all sorts of cheese.

Then just down the way to store neighbor Dan for wine and beer then a climb upstairs for nibbles and music...more fun!!

***Some of us managed to find a breeze.

Thanks to Dr. CoolPix (Lois) for the great photos

Lunch Bunch Meets Again

14...and that's a record for lunch !  Fourteen of us came together at the Big Rock Chop House in Birmingham on Wed. April 11th. Check out the photos below for our two 'Jungaleer Delinquents' (lone males) among all that femininity, Laughter and reminiscing and catching up were the order of the day....along with good food and excellent service.

Do try to set aside the 2nd Wednesday of each month for 'lunch with the bunch'. Notice of the location will arrive in your e-mail inboxes. May 9th at 12:30 pm...Capital Grill at Somerset North. Particulars to follow soon, so watch those inboxes.

Every so often there will be an evening function for those unable to make it for lunch....not all of us are retired don'tcha know. June 2nd, at a location yet to be determined, will find us at a 7pm dinner. The February gathering was such fun, there were 18 of us (see photos below) at the Loon River Cafe. Hopefully more Jungaleers will be able to join the laughter since springtime weather and later sunsets might make travel a bit less stressful.

Please tell any Southeastern friends you connect with about these fun events...there a way too many classmates on the 'unfound list'. Any contact info you can share should be sent to
Southeastern61@yahoo.com so they can be included in the (e)mailings.

Thank goodness our web-guy (and his wife Teddy) have returned to our midst in the  unpredictable land of the mitten. These are just the beggining of new and ongoing postings to the good ol' Southeastern61 Website. Surely, Dr. (Darrel) Photoshop will have some interesting contributions too...can hardly wait to see !!!

Enough for now, hope to see you in May and/or in June. Please keep in mind...if you live out of town or out of state (or even out of the country) but expect to be in the area at any time for any reason please let us know. We don't need much of an excuse to get together...and visiting Jungaleers would be a great reason for an extra gathering.

Liz McClellan (...Our very own Dr. Wordsmith)

Fellow Jungaleers! We have had lots of fun putting together this web-site. We are continuously adding photos to our many albums. We thoroughly enjoy hearing from all of you who have posted on our Classmate Profiles page, telling us what you have been up to these past few years.

Even though you may have stopped by and checked out all of our pages before, we encourage you to visit www.Southeastern61.com every now and then. Now that our 50th reunion has come and gone, we will try to update our site on a weekly basis.

We will continue to inform you of any changes or additions to our existing pages so that we can quickly guide you to our most recent additions. You won’t need to visit every page to find out what’s new whether it’s one of our Photo Albums, especially the one featuring our Children/Grandchildren, our Jungaleer page, or our unique Our Memorabilia page ~ where you can reminisce with some of the “cool things” (souvenirs, programs, awards, photos, pins etc.) that were such an important part of our high school years.

For those of you who have submitted their Classmate Profiles and photos; and who have digitally “donated” their mementos to Our Memorabilia page, we would like to extend a sincere Thank You. Please feel free to send us (on the Contact Us page) your thoughts and suggestions, your ideas for making this Reunion website even more user friendly, more informative, and certainly more fun.
